Mysteries and mists shroud this desolate coastline; seal and whale bones and shipwreck tales abound. It is where the de solate desert and icy ocean merge in an untamed wilderness.
The Skeleton Coast extends from the Ugab River to the Kunene River, covering an area of approximately 16 400 km2. Visitors are permitted to travel only in section restricted as a tourism concession area for fly-in safaris. Day visitors to the Skeleton Coast Park Springbokwasser gates, entering before 15:00 and leaving by 17:00. Overnight visitors for Torra and Terrace Bay must show confirmation of their reservations at the gates. The miles of flat beach are popular with fishermen.
